Uta Bekaia Studio

The Factory Tbilisi is evolving into a dynamic cultural hub, a safe and creative space where meaningful and much-needed projects for Georgia can emerge. Among the artists shaping the identity of this environment is Uta Bekaia.

Bekaia is a multimedia artist working between Tbilisi, New York, and various European cities. His practice explores new forms of ritual, reinterpreting tradition as a starting point for imagining alternative identities and possible worlds.

His work unfolds through immersive artistic environments that bring together objects, textiles, performance, and video. Blending craftsmanship with experimental approaches, he examines the body, memory, and collective experience, translating them into layered visual and spatial narratives.

Originally trained in industrial design in Tbilisi, Bekaia further developed his artistic language within the international art scene, particularly in New York, where he spent much of his adult life.

His projects have been presented at a wide range of institutions and independent venues across Georgia and internationally, including major exhibitions and residencies. Alongside his exhibition work, he is actively engaged in performance and public interventions, expanding beyond traditional gallery formats.

In 2019, he co-founded Fungus in Tbilisi, a creative platform supporting and amplifying queer artists within Georgia’s cultural landscape.
